Request for Annual Awards Nominations

by Bob Eccleston, FDAAA Awards Committee Chairman

As newly appointed Chair of the Association’s Awards Committee, I’m writing you to introduce -- or reacquaint -- you with the various awards sponsored by the Association and to solicit your nominations for them.

Before doing that, however, I want to join Association President Tony Celeste and Board Chair Liz Krell in commending Jim Benson for his outstanding leadership of the Association’s awards program for the last several award cycles.

Each year, we issue a “call” for three distinctive awards: FDAAA Volunteer of the Year Award, FDA Distinguished Alumni Award, and The Harvey W. Wiley Lecture award. (Refer to the FDAAA website -- Awards Program page -- for the specific criteria associated with each award.) Because arrangements are already underway for the Wiley Lecture, we are this year soliciting nominations only for the first two awards. All award nominations will be reviewed by the Awards Committee and recommendations submitted to the Executive Committee for final action.

In many cases, award nominees and their accomplishments and/or contributions that nominators believe are worthy of recognition are not fully known to those who will review nominations. For that reason and to afford all nominees equal consideration, each nomination must be accompanied by a written narrative not to exceed one page, in addition to a proposed award citation (25 words or less).

In order to meet award decision deadlines, nominations for both awards named above must be received no later than December 31, 2007. Please e-mail them to me at rcemje@hotmail.com or send by regular mail: 19901 Mastenbrook Place, Montgomery Village, MD 20886.

A great number of FDAAA members contribute their time and talents to the success of our organization and to advancing the public health. If you know someone who you believe deserves special recognition by the Association, we invite you to put forward their name for consideration. Thanks for your cooperation, and happy holidays!
