The Appointment of Ed Steele to Head Communications Committee is Confirmed

The appointment of Ed Steele as the new Chairman of the Communications Committee was confirmed at the October 23, 2008 Executive Committee Meeting. Ed retired from FDA in 1994 after 30 years of Agency service. He began his career as a field chemist in the New York District but he had been a manager in the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition in Washington for most of his FDA career. He now is the owner and President of EAS Consulting Group, LLC, a DC-based consulting, auditing and training firm specializing in FDA regulatory matters.

Ed is filling the position vacated by Bill Rados. He has ambitious plans to keep current information about the FDAAA flowing. He has already assembled a core committee consisting of Elaine Cole, Alan Andersen, Carla Moure, Ken Krell, Lois Beaver and Darryl Brown. In addition he welcomes the active involvement of as many volunteers as possible. The Committee has been working hard to build upon the excellent work already in place.

Some of the changes the committee is working on includes: the redesign the FDAAA website, giving Alan Andersen's periodic emails a more identifiable FDAAA look, archiving these "Updates" on the website for future reference, and encouraging more two-way communication with members "outside of the Beltway."

Darryl Brown, the committee's "field" representative has been actively recruiting volunteers throughout the country to get involved. Elaine Messa representing West Coast members, Diana Kolaitis representing Northeast members and Brenda Baumert representing Central and Southeast members have already stepped forward to help in the effort. Who knows perhaps this could the beginning of the formation of FDAAA Regional Chapters?

The committee is also looking for someone to coordinate the "Photo Album" page on the website (a repository for pictures of FDA people and events sent in by members). There are plenty of other volunteer activities that are fun to get involved in. Contact Ed at 703-684-4408 if you are interested.
