FDAAA goes international at the Life Sciences Innovation Forum, (LSIF)

FDAAA representatives of the International Network, Nancy Myers, Florence Houn and Lois Beaver were invited to Singapore to observe the APEC Life Sciences Innovation Forum (LSIF) and to describe the FDAAA-IN to the Regulatory Harmonization Steering Committee, (RHSC) August 2 to 4, 2009. The LSIF, comprised of regulatory authorities including FDA, industry and academia seeks to strengthen support for innovation that improves health and economic outcomes. The RHSC oversees the work of the APEC Harmonization Centre in Seoul, Korea and promulgates internationally harmonized guidance on human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, (ICH and VICH), on medical devices (GHTF), and other harmonization initiatives of importance to FDA. Another APEC activity focuses on capacity building in the food safety area with involvement of FDA and JIFSAN, (Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition). APEC, (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) is led by the Presidents or equivalent leaders of the 21 member economies close to or bordering the Pacific Ocean.
