New Appointments at Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH)
CDRH DIRECTOR
Following Dr. Daniel Schultz's resignation as CDRH Director, Commissioner Hamburg has appointed
Dr. Jeff Shuren to serve as Acting CDRH Director. In her announcement regarding this transitional appointment, Dr. Hamburg commented that Dr. Shuren is both a neurologist and lawyer with a "deep understanding of medical device law and policy." Dr. Shuren is in his tenth year at the FDA and now serves as Associate Commissioner for Policy and Planning. The FDA will conduct a national search for the position of director of CDRH.
OFFICE OF SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING LABORATORIES
Steve Pollack, Ph.D. is the new Director, Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL). Steve joined CDRH/FDA in 2005 as the Director of the Division of Chemistry and Materials Science. Prior to that, Steve was a research scientist and manager at the Naval Research laboratory. He also held a variety of positions in industry at Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Baxter Technology and Ventures, and Springborn Laboratories.
