Philip Derfler Appointed Associate Commissioner for Foods Policy in FDA’s Office of Foods
On July 27, FDA’s Deputy Commissioner for Foods, Mike Taylor, announced the appointment of Philip Derfler as the Associate Commissioner for Foods Policy in the Office of Foods. Mr. Derfler returns to FDA from his position as Assistant Administrator for the Office of Policy and Program Development at the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
In his memorandum, Mike Taylor said: “Phil will provide on my behalf the cross-cutting leadership and sustained senior management attention that our rulemaking and policy agenda deserves and that is necessary to ensure that the hard work of people across the Foods Program pays off through timely completion of major projects
“One of Phil’s duties will be to chair the newly established Foods Program Regulations and Policy Steering Committee comprised of senior leaders from CFSAN, CVM, ORA, the Office of Foods, the Office of Policy, and the Office of Chief Counsel. This committee will work closely with the ELT (Executive Leadership Team) to set clear priorities for our rulemaking and policy work, streamline processes, and foster close coordination among all of the centers and offices involved with food policy.” (See FDAAA August 2, 2010 Update for full text of July 27 memorandum)
