The Personal Care Products Council is looking for a Director for the Washington, DC-based Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Program. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Program is an independent scientific review to assess the safety of cosmetic and personal care ingredients in the U.S. The Director of the CIR supervises a staff of 10 including toxicologists, chemists, and science writers who gather published and unpublished safety data for evaluation by an outside Expert Panel comprised of world-renowned scientists and physicians. In 2016, CIR completed the scientific assessment of more than 560 ingredients; more than 5000 ingredients have been reviewed since the program began in 1976.

The CIR Director plans and schedules all matters for consideration of the Expert Panel; supervises the preparation of review materials for each Panel meeting; develops abstracts of all final safety assessments; and submits the safety assessments for publication in the International Journal of Toxicology. The Director also represents the CIR Program with the American Academy of Dermatology, university programs, scientific societies and government organizations both nationally and globally.

An advanced academic degree in biology/chemistry/toxicology and related experience in evaluating the safety of chemicals is desired, with 15+ years of demonstrated experience and leadership, and 5 years high level supervisory experience.
