Bob Eccleston

Robert Eccleston began his 35-year FDA career in 1973 as a radiological health educator in the Bureau of Radiological Health. By 1977, he assumed responsibility for the Bureau's congressional and government relations and continued in this role following the 1982 merger of the radiological health and medical devices programs into the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. In 1985, he worked on health issues for a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives as a Congressional Fellow. In 1989, he joined the Office of the Commissioner where he was principal liaison with the Congress and various agencies on investigations into criminal wrongdoing in the generic drugs industry and FDA's generic drug regulatory program. Until 2002, he also served as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner and later to the Acting Commissioner. After returning to CDRH as a senior policy advisor, he worked on device regulatory policy and international health issues and was a medical devices consultant to the World Health Organization. Mr. Eccleston retired from FDA in 2007. He is a co-founder of the FDAAA, served as its first Associate Member Liaison, and been a member of the Activities, Communications, and Executive Committees.
