Florence Houn, M.D.
Florence Houn served 15 years in FDA, most recently as Deputy Director for the Office of Vaccines Research and Review in the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research from 2006 to 2008. Since leaving FDA, she has joined Celgene Corporation as Vice President for Regulatory Policy and Strategy. From 1999 to 2006, Dr. Houn was the Director, Office of Drug Evaluation III in the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. She served as a Deputy Director for the Office of Drug Evaluation II in 1998, and from 1993 to 1998, was the Director for the Division of Mammography Quality and Radiation Programs in the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. In 2009 she received the HHS Career Service Award. Prior to FDA, she served four years in the National Health Service Corps in a manpower health shortage area in East Baltimore. She received her MD degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, MPH from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and her AB from Harvard University. She completed her fellowship in cancer prevention at the National Cancer Institute and was a medical consultant at the Johns Hopkins Breast and Ovarian Surveillance Service. She had been the FDAAA treasurer and is currently the co-chair of the FDAAA International Network.
