FDAAA International Network visits with CFDA Officials and BioBAY Entrepreneurs

On May 25, 2015, a FDAAA delegation (FDAAA International Network Planning Group Members) was again invited to meet with Mr. YUAN Lin, Director General of the CFDA Department of International Cooperation. With all the reform efforts CFDA is undertaking at this time, he reiterated his interest in working with FDAAAIN and its members to offer insights regulatory science training as China advances its regulatory framework in order to encourage innovation. FDAAA Chair Nancy Myers outlined the work FDAAA is doing with FDA with its advisory pilot with ORA and Commissioner’s Fellows panels to demonstrate our capacity. Mr. YUAN LIN was interested in continuing a dialogue of creative interactions between CFDA and FDAAAIN.
At the invitation of Ms Yuwen Liu, Executive Director of BioBay Innovation Park, Dr. Peggy Hamburg, Former FDA Commissioner and FDAAA IN members Nancy Myers, and Jinjie Hu and Zili Li visited BioBay on May 27th. There are 380 start-up life science companies gathered in BioBAY, a dedicated incubator founded in 2005. BioBAY, 1-hour drive west of Shanghai, located in the innovation zone of China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, has attracted more than 10,000 professionals working in the area, with over 20% PhD and over 20% Master degree talents from all over China, even the world.
The group visited two start-up companies and had a roundtable discussion with local CFDA officials and CEOs within the BioBAY complex on the medical product innovation and regulatory reform.
