John Roth, Office of Criminal Investigations Director Leaves FDA, Phil Walsky becomes Acting OCI Director

Effective March 10, 2014, John Roth, who had been Director, Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI) in FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs, left the Agency. Mr. Roth left FDA to become the Inspector General of the Department of Homeland Security.

Under Mr. Roth’s leadership, OCI has built on its role as one of the nation’s premier law enforcement organizations. OCI has successfully investigated and prosecuted many serious threats to public health, including combating counterfeit and unapproved medical products.

Phil Walsky, who had been OCI’s Deputy Director, has assumed the role of Acting Director, OCI, as the Agency searches for a new permanent director. Mr. Walsky’s law enforcement background spans more than 23 years, including more than 15 years with FDA.
